It’s moving time. Not as in relocating but as in moving on.
Yes, AHS (A Hopeful Sign), the blog devoted to sharing hopeful stories, images and videos will be shutting down. After two years of developing and managing the volunteer site I’ve decided to take a break, leave or do whatever bloggers do when the project runs its course.
Maintaining a blog site on a daily basis stretched my learning in various ways that at times it felt like I was back in school, not as teacher but student. I now know how to: craft a meaningful post; seek out writers with hopeful messages; administer, manage and market the blog; promote the posts through Twitter; develop a facebook fan site; track and interpret Google Analytics; and employ SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tactics to draw in traffic. I may have only scratched the blogosphere surface but I still learned lots about the digital environment.
Along the way, I’ve met an amazing number of talented artists, writers, travelers, students, parents, educators and photographers from around the world who freely contributed to or followed AHS. Tweet by tweet and post by post, we gradually grew into a credible online community resulting in 547 stories, 225 videos and 55,000 visitors.
Thank you everyone for giving so generously. Thank you for sharing your perspectives on living, learning, leading. Thank you for showing that the greatest joy and happiness comes from what we do to enrich other people’s lives.
As for me, I leave with a renewed sense of hope and what it can do to empower, heal and transform. Hope challenges the passivity and negativity around people. Hope builds resilience.
So, thank you all. I will cherish the wonderful memories and lessons learned as I move on to pursue other
projects and interests.
I will fittingly close with what Dr. Seuss said at times like this: “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
